Comments
Comments: A nice day out in Grafton Notch, cloudy skies with a few flurries with occasional sun breaking through. An easy climb up to the ledges today. Through the open woods trail was packed out - snow was a little soft and wet but boots were fine sinking a few inches occasionally. Once you enter the Stewart Family preserve where it transitions to evergreens trail transitioned to packed powder that was a little loose on the surface but not deep at all, light traction was helpful here. Trail was packed out to the view ledges about 3/4 mile below the summit. Crossing the ledges there was significant drifting snow. Above this point, the trail was completely drifted in, no signs of any recent travel. Given I was sinking above my knees on the ledges and hadn't brought the snowshoes had to turn around at the ledges. Anyone heading above the ledges will definitely need snowshoes at least until it melts down. Ledges were still a fine destination in themselves with great views up Grafton Notch. Also enjoyed the views out to Sunday River when heading down through the open woods. Another great day out- had the trails to myself today.
