Grafton Loop Trail (eastern section)
There is no legitimate excuse for being late with this trail conditions report. I'm just late!
Anyway, Puzzle Mountain was reached by starting at the eastern trailhead for the Grafton Loop Trail which is located on the east side of Rt. 26 (4.9 miles north of its junction with Rt. 2 at Newry, ME).
This was just a simple 6.4 mile (round-trip) hike using the same route for both the outbound and inbound leg of our trek. For this time around, the Woodsum Spur Trail wasn't incorporated into the itinerary.
Regarding trail conditions, there was nothing to impede your progress. All water crossings were easy, there were no significant blowdowns, nor any significant areas of mud. The trail is very well blazed, and there are many well placed cairns to guide you on the open ledges.
