Comments
Comments: When I left Millinocket, skies were clear, temp at 60. Driving over, I
could see a big, dark cloud covering the mountain. Drizzle greeted me at
the parking area but I started up Chimney Pond hoping for the best. My
original plan was to go up Hamlin Ridge, go across to Baxter & come down
Saddle. With the rain, I decided to go straight up Saddle. The ranger at
Chimney Pond was advising everyone to avoid Knives Edge & Cathedral. I
got up Saddle no problem, but the ridge was cold with windblown mist. The
path to Baxter was easy but the weather was starting to wear me down. When
I got back to the Saddle right turn, I decided to give up on Hamlin for
the day. It wasn't going to be much fun to be exposed for at least 2 more
miles. Number 67 will have to wait. As I left the park at 2:30 I looked
back & the mountain was still in the clouds.
