Helping friends on their NEHH. One needed 4, one needed 5 and three needed 6. Drove Tim Pond Rd from Eustis then along the pond up to Wiggles and then Bear Brook. Did WC and NKD in the usual way. Herd paths becoming well used. Drove west on Wiggles Brk Rd 3.6 mi to just west of the little drainage on north slope of Cupsuptic Snow and 'whacked up through slash (new since summer 2011)to summit herdpath then east to canister. Descended the herdpath further westward before bearing north downslope to cars to avoid spruce. Continued west on Wiggles Brk to Oxbow Rd, taking that north to Cupsuptic Pond Rd, parking just north of where Pat(Bombadil)and I camped last March. Then hiked north on a woods road/ATV trail to the swath and up that about 6 miles to Boundary Pk and returning. Took this longer route instead of driving across border and going in through Gosford Park so we could fit these four peaks into Day One. Found out later that Gosford trails were closed through 10/4 for moose hunting, and trail access "restricted" starting 10/5 for deer hunting. Did see four moose...two on roads (almost hit one on Tim Pond Rd) and two on the swath. Thanks Elizabeth, Pam, Dan, Scott and Bob for a long, fun day! |
