Trail was in good shape with only one or two blow downs. Conditions were interesting! There was a very thick layer of crust and ice under about 4 or 5 inches of powder. The crust would break sometimes and other times the cleats on the snowshoes would not dig in resulting in lots of skitching and sliding and falling. I switched to microspikes for the steeper part of the descent but they did not have enough bite either to keep from falling. I'm sure conditions have improved some since this last storm. |
