Comments
Comments: A very quick ascent to Saddleback but getting a late start in the day and difficult trail finding conditions prevented me to reach the Horn. The most recent activity from zporter Cold River Camp Cook almost 2 weeks ago, was obliterated. After reaching the first bump after Saddleback the snow was deep, drifted and the trail was not distinguishable to follow. You could see where you had to go but getting there proved a lot more difficult than you would expect. It became slow going whittling down towards the col, encountering slabs of ice. Finally saw a trail marking on a rock in the middle of a slab of ice, and was headed in the right direction but based on how long it took to get there and how much more time I might require to reach the summit of the Horn, based on the current conditions, in addition to being very cold and windy at the saddle, and traveling solo, I decided to turn around. A much earlier start would be required to reach the Horn in these seemingly tough conditions.
