Great day for a redo of the Baldpates so that Linda could get 92. Beautiful day, clouds appeared after noon and it was windy on the exposed ledges of West Peak. 8 miles total in and out, 3100 ft of elevation change. Trail starts climbing very soon from Rte 26 until the Table Rock trail then climbs again until it skirts around the north side of the sub peak of west, drops down to the where the shelter is and begins a steep climb to West Baldpate. From there you see the open ledges of East Baldpate. We did not really follow the cairns on the way up, we just tried to stay on general track towards the top. Coming down we followed the cairns. Saw a single hiker and 3 groups on our way down, one large group of young backpackers. Gorgeous spot in Grafton Notch away from the busy Whites! |
