Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were easy hops at current levels.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in decent shape all around. One new blowdown (a rotted tree top) on descent from Mahoosuc Arm, not completely blocking the trail. Bog bridges could use some TLC, especially on the stretch between Goose Eye North Peak, and East Peak. Good to see that most of the dangerously slippery bog bridging on Peabody Brook Trail has been replaced. Some brushy areas ascending to Mahoosuc Arm from Speck Pond, and descending Peabody Brook Trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Bugs were out in force, but weren't really bothersome. Occasionally buzzing around my ears, but rarely landing, and not biting. Lucky!

Comments
Comments: Today was the day for an attempt at a Mahoosuc Traverse. It didn't work out as planned, but it laid the groundwork for another attempt under cooler conditions. The going was good, if a bit damp from the previous nights rain, all the way through Mahoosuc Notch. Sunrise from Old Speck was pretty spectacular. I started to hit the wall once out of the coolness of the notch, and while I made decent time, the heat and humidity took their toll on me. I ended up bailing out Peabody Brook (around 5:45) instead of hiking through the last ~6 miles of Mahoosuc Trail (which had another ~2100' of gain!). Thanks to Mike for picking me up at the end of it all, and for the ride back to my car. Here's to another attempt!
