Follow grass / muddy logging road about 1/3 mile until the first large road on left. Take that follow it uphill to the right and it will bring you into a large landing area for logs, follow another logging road uphill over a culvert and then into new logging area. The herd path has been obliterated by the new logging operation. Go to the far top right corner, head up away from Cup - Snow, herd path is up at least 1/4 mile up the top of a slash. We never found it so we whacked straight up the fall line and ran into the herd path at about 3600 ft. Once we found that it was just a long walk through ferns, but it is a little tricky, watch your feet for the tread way. Canister is on a tree just outside the peak area. We didn't stay long, bugs ridiculous! And second hike of the day, didn't want to waste all the driving time on Tim Pond. Found and stayed on herd path right into new slash area, top logging area. 2 hrs from car to peAk to car! #99 for the new wife and I. With any luck we will finish Sunday AM on East Kennebago. This one was not as easy as all said it would be. We gave up looking for the herd path quickly and just whacked straight up to the peak. |
