Comments
Comments: Trail now well consolidated after the rain on Sunday (a 100% rain event and no fresh snow on these trails on Sun.) Microspikes helpful, but we preferred snowshoes for their "televators" lifting our heels for the extremely steep "chimney section" to the Bigelow Col. Some would prefer full traction/crampons for the Avery Peak summit cap. We stayed at Stratton Brook Hut (2.5 miles walk from the summer Firewarden's trailhead), a great place to stay the night before (mainehuts.org). A cold, clear, windy day with superb views to Flagstaff Lake, Sugarloaf, Crockers, and beyond.
