Peaks
Peaks Caribou Mountain, ME
Trails
Trails: Caribou Trail, Mud Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, January 22, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at Pooh Corner nursery, room for 4 cars or so. The road to the trailhead is not driveable by any vehicle. The road walk adds about 15 minutes to each side of the hike.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Several water crossings and no problems crossing. A couple were frozen on top with water running under the ice. A couple had very little ice or water, used rocks to hop across.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail was in decent shape. A few minor blow downs but nothing major. Beware of previous tracks from others who were obviously bushwacking and did not summit. Don't follow those tracks if you want to summit.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw a lot of dog prints from previous days. Dog friendly hike in my opinion.
Bugs
Bugs: No bugs!

Comments
Comments: The trail is pretty much frozen snow from parking area to summit. Previous hikers have post holed a little here and there but overall the condition of the trail was decent. I was able to use Kathoolas the entire hike without post holing since the snow was frozen pretty solid. If you are a heavier person or if the snow softens up you will need snowshoes. There is a rail starting and the snow on either side of that looked like it was at least 12" deep.
