Comments
Comments: The ski resort is not open yet so we took free reign of going straight up the mountain on the trails. A crust covered by several inches of snow would break under our weight so it was a rough go, snowshoes would definitely be good here. About half way up it began firming a bit. Towards the top of Saddleback it turned to a more solid ice crust, good traction is a must. After summitting Saddleback the trail kind of disappears but because we had a clear day we pushed our way across to the horn trying our best to keep on what we hoped was the trail. Quite a bit of drifted snow and a lot of ice on the ridge. Followed a few cairns that we could spot and were able to summit the Horn. The clouds, wind, and snow came in and we walked back in a near white out (if you aren't familiar with the area, I'd recommend doing it on a clear day, it'll be easier). Quick descent!
