Peaks
Peaks Goose Eye Mountain, Mt. Carlo, ME
Trails
Trails: Goose Eye Trail, Mahoosuc Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, August 14, 2010
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Success Pond Road is dusty and has some washboard, but passable. If only doing Goose Eye Trail and if you have high clearance, you can take the second logging road on the right after the trailhead and drive up to the trail crossing, saving maybe 1/2 of a mile of hiking.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hoppable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Goose Eye Trail in need of brushing. Third from bottom rung on ladder on south side of Goose Eye rotting and in need of replacement.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Ladder on south side of Goose Eye on Mahoosuc Trail is probably too much for many dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Some quasi black flies down low in the afternoon, otherwise minimal.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:

Comments
Comments: Trails and scramble ledges mostly dry. One or two scramble ledges had some wet spots, but doable nonetheless. Some minor mud down in the logged areas. Reclimbed Goose Eye rather than dealing with nasty Carlo Col Trail.
