mt. abraham, via at, lone mt., through east madrid. august, 20th. cool start but turned to a great day. no bugs. the section of trail to lone mt and then to abraham cut off is one of the best trails we have seen in maine. no big boulders, no wash outs. beautiful fir and birch forest for those first 2 miles with lots of green moss. challenging part of hike was the last 35 min. stretch getting to the summit over broken rock with 40 mile gust. fantastic views. ran into a few energetic north bounders on way out. congrats to them all with only a couple hundred miles to go. it took 6 years, but #67 for us. may have to start a new list. happy trails.
