Comments
Comments: I fully expected ice and brought Hillsounds and crampons. The lower trail was bare with some mud and icy areas that were easily avoidable. As the elevation increased I put on Hillsounds which were adequate even beyond the Baldpate Shelter. As I climbed the ice bulges got worse so I put on crampons. Just before the last climb to the summit the ice became unreal. Huge thick ice bulges and my crampons wouldn't purchase. I didn't have an ice axe (had no clue I would need one). I tried bushwhacking around the ice but there was no safe path. I turned around at this point and carefully picked my way down. I will be back after we have a few more days of warmer temps.
