Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: CVR is dry and drive-able. Plenty of dried mud tracks and several protruding rocks - but quite doable a with a bit of caution.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Blue, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only significant crossing on this hike is the Carrabassett River. The board which used to be there to facilitate safe crossing is gone. Crossing involves a giant step - or jump - to a partially sub-merged slippery rock (I did not make it and had both legs in the water to my knees. Fortunately, only a short walk to the car from there and it was considerably warmer than the 10F measured on the Crockers in the early morning).
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some debris and a few blowdowns here and there but nothing significant.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Crossing the river could be tricky and there is some ice here and there. The descent along the AT to the river is steep and a considerable challenge for dogs.

Comments
Comments: Generally, very mixed conditions as can be expected in Spring.

Dry conditions and very little mud at lower elevation. The steep section on the descent from Sugarloaf to the Carrabassett River is completely ice- and snow-free.

Plenty of icy-patches and hard-crusted snow section but light traction should be sufficient (I used Hillsounds).

The AT from Spaulding to Sugarloaf Spur jct. has a mono-rail developing and there is still a significant snow-coverage (2 ft.) on this section.
