| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking is always tight at Baxter State Park. You can go online and reserve a spot for $5, but make sure you still get there early. If you don't show up by 7:05 AM, they will give your spot away to someone else. We got to the park at 6:18 AM and waited almost 45 minutes to get in. |

We finally made it to Mount Katahdin, #55 for us on the NE67 hiking List. This was probably the toughest mountain we have hiked to date. The first couple of miles are not to bad, but when you get to around 3 miles, the mountain becomes unforgiving! It almost seemed to go straight up at times. All we kept thinking was, we have to come back down this! :) Once you get to Table Land, the rest of the hike to the summit is a piece of cake.
We had intended to try Knifes Edge, but figured there would be a lot of thru hikers finishing the AT and we wanted a chance to congratulate them and we did to quite a few of them. Knife Edge is very impressive looking from the summit of Baxter Peak. Maybe some day, but the next two trips to the park are for the other two peaks on the NE67 list. :)
We did video the adventure for anyone interested in seeing the trail conditions or the hike itself
