| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Worst section of Success Pond Rd was the first half mile out of Berlin it seemed. Other than that I found it over hyped in terms of its roughness. Parking area off North side of the road across from trailhead. If not paying attention you could blow by it. Drove the rest of the length to ME Rt 26 and had no issues in my Subaru Forester. Look out for quads ripping around, they're not always on the right side of the road! |

Great cool day for a hike. Found the Speck Pond trail a beautiful alternative to the standard route to Speck out of Grafton Notch. No issues with the trail once beyond the first mile, where it had been logged out in the past. Even there it was only long grass and other shrubs that was the issue, no big deal.
Nice to revisit this area of the AT when it isn't socked in a cloud, beautiful ledges around Mahoosuc Arm and on the way up Speck. Many people at the summit tower area, was glad to have taken the less traveled route. 10.7 round trip. |
