After a super grilled cheese sandwich at the Statton General Store. Drove over to Saddleback. There was one car parked in an otherwise huge lot. I got glimpses of the guy ahead of me but he was pretty fast and blew me away going up. Did not need spikes for the ascent. When I reached the top I found the the fella and a young lady milling around on the peak right before the drop off. Apparently they could not find the way through the rock belt. Feeling like Rudolph I lead them down to it but once I got on to the next slab I stopped and put on my spikes. It was the most ice I had seen all weekend and you really needed them. I caught back up to my much faster but not as good at trail reading new friend and found out he was finishing his 67 on Horn. We made it up to the top I took a few pictures for him and headed back. I was hoping that perhaps I had repaid a little of the karmic debts that I owe so heavily to all the folks that have helped me over the years. He waited for the young lady and I headed back. He passed me on the way back to the parking. Old knees and feet are slow, what can I say. Got to get used to the fact that I'm over the hill. |
