Comments
Comments: On a beautiful day, I hiked the Eyebrown to Old Speck. The trail was well maintained, water runoff managed, and the steps along the first set of ledges were easy to use. On a wet day, these may be tricky. Views from the ledges of the Eyebrow are awesome. The junction with the Old Speck Trail (AT) is a bit tricky, as the trail marker faces the AT's northbound direction. I missed it and walked about .25 miles before realizing my mistake. Old Speck Trail was also well maintained, with some muddy areas, but exposed rocks to make it easy. As elevation increased to 3500+ a few soft snow patches covered the trail, which were easy to manage. As you get to 4000+, the amount of snow patches increases but the snow is soft, manageable to walk on or around. I didn't need my microspikes all day. Summit clear and dry, summit tower was windy and chilly, but clear 360 views. Mt. Washington looks way different than earlier this week when I was there on Tuesday in thigh deep wet snow. I returned via the Old Speck Trail directly, bypassing the Eyebrown, just to seek different terrain. Was treated to some gorgeous cascades along the way. Enjoyed a nice beer at Sunday River Brewing Co. afterwards.
