Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I drove in on Elephant Mountain road to about 2.2 mi. This is about 3/4 mi shy of summer parking. Running water on the road due to rain, caused me not to want to push any further. By the walk out, things were already drying. The road looks like it will be good for travel this summer. 2 possible culvert issues may cause future problems.

Comments
Comments: I continued to walk along the spur of Elephant Mountain road, soon it turns to a herd path at a cairn. The herd path is marked in ribbon and takes one to the AT, 1.5 south of the Bemis Stream junction. This path and both trails are extremely wet, with lots of running water. There is snow in places, nothing requiring snowshoes, but enough to slow you down a bit. Once on the AT I walked north to the Bemis Stream trail. I took the BST down until it turns north and launched the bushwhack. Initial woods were very thick. Closer to the obvious and recognized highpoint, things opened up. I returned by a similar route, but found much better woods on the bushwhack portion.
