Saw two dogs aside from ours. One had a bloodied paw, but was fine. Very icy beyond Saddleback summit - made for very tricky descent into col for canines. |

 | Comments: |
The trail was easy to follow as someone had made the trip up in the days before. We followed their trail until it was no longer discernible, just past the summit of Saddleback. The descent from Saddleback was icy and drifted in. Some places we were in up to our waists, others it was a sheet of ice. We met two other hikers, each with a dog. We collectively decided about half way down into the col that it would not be wise to proceed with the dogs and turned back. Had we left the dogs home, we could have made the trek to Horn. I would advise Hill Sounds at the very least as the Micro Spikes weren't quite cutting it on the thick ice. |
