Great, sunny day on these unheralded Maine summits. The new(ish) trail out to Saddleback is well thought out, blazed, and the soft footbed a pleasure to walk on. Highly recommended. Lots of open ledges on both sides of Bald. Interesting, upclose view if the Carthage wind turbines from Saddleback. Far reaching 360 views to the Whites, Mahoosucs, Grafton Notch, Bemis, Tumbledown, Saddleback/Horn, Blue, and Abraham from both summits. Spotted a pair of screeching Peregrine Falcons cruising the thermals above Saddleback. Underrated hike! 5.5mi, ~2400 ft out & back. |
