Comments
Comments: An utterly spectacular day on Katahdin - sunny, warm but not humid, views for miles. The hike up Helen Taylor and over Knife Edge to Baxter might be the most rugged 4.7 miles I've ever hiked - the rock hop up the last mile or so of Pamola feels like it will never end, and Knife Edge is just slow-going - no need for haste when slipping would be less than ideal. Losing the phone (my wife's) slightly dampened the day, but not much. On a side note, Cathedral Trail was a very difficult descent; I wouldn't recommend it unless you have time (it's very slow-going) and don't mind a very steep rock clamber (some places felt like a downhill Knife Edge). Very tough on the knees. I bet it's a great ascent, though.
