Comments
Comments: Saw no one else until I was half-way down. Old Speck Tr had been broken out all the way to the summit; many thanks to those who broke out a good snowshoe track, but no thanks whatsoever to the barebooter who destroyed most of their work, probably when it was still warm. The trail was riddled with postholes (many as deep as 120 cm) and frozen ridges the entire way – lots of ankle-breakers that made for tricky footing in spots. The base is pretty firmly frozen now, even outside the trench. About half-way up, things were starting to get drifted in a bit, and then it started snowing. On my return, my tracks were filled in/drifted over in several spots. The route is pretty easy to follow thanks to frequent paint blazes, though some of those will be “underwater” with another good dump of snow. The snow and drifting actually helped in the effort to smooth out the trail. The group of 5 I met on my way down all were wearing snowshoes and that (plus the fresh snow) really helped smooth out the lower part of the trail which is in good shape now. There was one short icy scramble on the way up, easily negotiated.

Eyebrow trail was not broken out and Mahoosuc Tr looked untouched.
