| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Oh, boy. Access was difficult. From the end of Roach Pond to West Branch Pond Camps was all solid ice. 5 mph with tire chains. Space for a couple of vehicles, but you need to be able to turn around and get back up the iced hill. No cell service if things go wrong. White knuckle drive. |

Late week thaw froze solid overnight on Saturday. This was the one of the few trips this winter we weren't sinking in crazy powder. Used skis about 3 miles in. Then snowshoes. Stayed on top of snow! As was common for us this winter, the snow was up over the cut of the trail with elevation, so we were bushwhacking even if we were on the trail. We were glad we had a gps track of the trail from a summer hike. We saw few blazes after Logan Brook Shelter. Even with gps, impossible to tell if we were on the trail or not. The shelter had about six feet of snow on the roof. Our bushwhack saved almost a mile each way. 12.8 miles total. |
