Room for 10 cars in lot on Wild River road abut 3 miles from its junction with Rte 113. Only car in the lot today. |

Burnt Mill Brook trail is in need of some serious TLC with numerous blowdowns of all shapes and sizes - oddly most had leaves indicating they had recently come down - step overs,duckunders, crawl under and a number requiring detours off trail. We trimmed a few of the smaller more annoying ones with a handsaw but many still left - at least one is probably chain saw worthy, upper half could also use brushing as vegetation is encroaching on the narrow trail. Other trails in great shape. |

Should have no problem, lots of water along the trails today for sips and dips. |

Unbelievable! Got the double whammy of black flies and mosquitoes. two of use used a full can of deep woods off and then switched to the 100% deet applying it numerous times, still ended up with numerous bites. Don't venture out there without some protection. Only relief was on the ledge at the end of the East Royce trail where a breeze helped keep them at bay. |

Decided to take the road less taken to East Royce. For those heading to the Royces this is a nice alternative not heavily traveled with a number of waterfalls in the first mile of the Burnt mill brook trail. As noted above there were numerous blowdowns on the Burnt mill brook trail. Other than that a few spots of mud. There was more significant mud on the Royce trail heading over to the connector and a few spots of running water so boots will get muddy. Heading up the steep section of east royce there was one stretch of wet rock of about 50 yards which was a bit slick but manageable. On the heard path past the end of the East Royce heading heading to the actual summit there is one good patch of boot sucking mud. |
