Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Blue, ME
Trails
Trails: Mt. Blue Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 22, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Ample parking at designated area at the end of Mt. Blue Rd. This is a well maintained dirt road passable by any vehicle. It’s better than several PAVED Maine roads... Nice signs to indicate the way. These were not there 5 years ago.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No water crossings on this trail. There is a brook if you need water behind the old Ranger’s cabin. Follow the well worn footpath to the right of the cabin.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: None. Immaculate trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Some super cute dogs out enjoying the trail. No major obstacles for them.
Bugs
Bugs: Uh.. so this is a Maine trail. Bugs are complimentary to any outdoor venture in Maine. However, the breeze today and the fact that this is a dry tail, by Maine standards, made bugs much less of an issue.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A pair of red glasses were left on a rock past the Rangers cabin.

Comments
Comments: The brochure published by Maine State Parks cite this trail as being 1.2 miles one way. The lovely, well maintained sign at the trailhead says 1.6 miles to the summit. So, it’s your choice on the distance. Either way, it is a traditional Maine trail that starts climbing at a moderate grade (read this as steep) immediately and doesn’t let up until it spits you out at the summit.

I have not been on this trail in 5 years. Happy to find it in perfect shape and people out there climbing to the 3,187 foot peak.

Visibility was wonderful. Could see all the way to Mt Washington, Old Speck, and a peek at the Bigelows from the communications tower.

There is a designated camping area with fire ring, shelter, and privy to the right of the parking area (as you are looking at the trailhead) in a nice open field. Out of state firewood is banned in Maine. This is literally my backyard so thanks for being awesome hikers! Enjoy!
