Packed up camp and Lew and I headed to the Katahdin Stream to the day parking lot at the Hunt Trailhead. Lots of room at 6 am. Great steady hike. The last half mile feels like a mile or more because it is steep steep and climbing over big rocks takes effort and time. The clouds were hanging out just under 4000 feet so we enjoyed nice views and the Katahdin Stream off the mountain looked like a long dancing waterfall. The cliff and ledges off the Owl's summit are dramatic. Fun to Hike with you Lew, thanks.
We saw a couple of small groups and a runner headed up The Owl as we descended. I forgot to mention I only saw one person on my OJI hike and that was near the bottom of the Coe Slide and our Traveler Loop we only saw a couple at the Lookout on North Traveler--The Park camping was sold out but many sites were empty. I guess the hot weather and the threat of storms kept people away. We had planned to stay thru Sunday but the bugs were so horrible at the campsite, I was too hot and I was ready to go home so I drove straight home after our hike. I can't wait to go back. |
