Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Heading to South Turner, the bridge is being repaired. Follow the orange surveyor's tape back from the Ranger Station. There is a temporary bridge that will get you across Roaring Brook. (It's a very sturdy, well built bridge.)
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails listed were fine. Dudley trail is still closed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No dogs allowed in Baxter State Park.
Bugs
Bugs: The Maine state bird is in abundance in the park, and they're utterly homicidal. Bring ample quantities of bug juice, and a head net isn't a bad idea. (It's not like the trail is a runway in Paris or Milan, anyway.)

Wow, where to start? It was a 9 day trip, so, much was seen and much was hiked. As a whole and in its parts, Baxter's legacy did not disappoint one single iota. Kudos to the AT hikers who I meet on Katahdin, that finished their journeys: Frozen, Resident Daddy, Farmer, 'Murica, and Katmandu.

Overall, trails were in fine shape. Maybe a blowdown here or there, maybe some bog bridge needed replacing. But by and large, smooth sailing.

There's a write up on my blog of the general experience. More posts detailing the individual hikes to follow. As always, there are pictures. Please consider subscribing to stay abreast.
