Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Elephant Mountain (Andover), ME
Trails
Trails: Logging road, bushwhack
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, July 21, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Jeep trail up to where the bushwhack begins is mostly passable by car. Near where the trail begins, you will need a high ground clearance 4x4 to get over a partially washed out drain culvert. Anything else risks a ripped oil pan.

Comments
Comments: The tree thinning/slash is awful to hike ON. Yes ON. You pretty much are not able to hike on the ground where the slash is tossed willy nilly. Think 10,000+ thumb to wrist sized trees scattered like pick up stix from the logging road to about 3400'. Sucked, but definitely manageable. If you go for it, hike through the tall grass about 5 minutes past where you can't drive any more and look for a herd path to the left. It's overgrown significantly, but easier than being a Wallenda sibling balancing on top of spruce sticks.

This hike was difficult, but if you have some experience and confidence navigating and not worrying about being exactly on a herd path or GPS track, then go for it.
