Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: First 0.5 mile or so is loose dirt with lack of solid footholds. Poles were greatly appreciated when descending this area of trail. Trail includes a few areas of large, flat rock that can be steep and slippery to descend so use caution. Muddy areas towards the summit can mostly be avoided via rock hopping.

Bugs: First summer hike with NO black flies or mosquitos! What a relief.

Comments
Comments: Popular trail with great views overlooking Franconia Ridge. Don't miss the scenic outlook on your way up (no signage but will be on your left after the trail levels out for a while). This was much less crowded than the overlook at the top due to tourists coming up on the tramway, and offers large open rock space that is perfect for having some lunch. If you are looking for a summit sign there is one in the tramway station with name and elevation listed.
