||Bickford Brook Trail, Blueberry Ridge Trail|
|Date of Hike:
||Sunday, November 10, 2019|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||The route 113 gate was open so one can access the Brickett Place parking today. The lot is a fee area and the fee tube was not wrapped. |
||Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery |
||Light Traction |
|Water Crossing Notes:
||Bickford Brook crossing was a leap from bank to bank. Watch out for icy surfaces. |
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||Trails in good condition. There are two 12+ inch diameter evergreens across the Bickford Brook Trail between the Spruce Hill and upper Blueberry Ridge junctions. Additional tree falls across the Bickford Brook Trail below the Spruce Hill junction. All impediments can be stepped over, stepped om, or swung under.
When descending the Bickford Brook Trail take care to turn left after crossing the WMNF boundary (bright red paint on trees). There is a faded small left pointing sign on the right side of the trail marking the turn. |
||Saw two dogs today. Good trail for dogs. |
||Actually saw one flying insect |
|Lost and Found:
||There is ice on the ledge areas between Bickford Brook and Blueberry Mtn and on the final ascent to Speckled Mtn summit on the Bickford Brook Trail. Much of the open ledge areas were either ice free or had enough dry spots to allow for secure footing. The icy areas were the stretches shaded by the evergreens. One should bring traction in case the ice proliferates. I was able to walk through the adjacent woods or skirt the ice without traction. |
There are great views from the Overlook Loop, Blueberry Ridge, and Speckled Mtn summit.
