| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns. Blazing is very sloppy in places and at the brook crossing it looks like a whole bucket of paint has been spilled on a boulder. As with most of Baxter's trails, it's blazed in blue, although the loop around the top of the peak has a lot of the older white blazes. |

Having never been here before, I picked this out of the MMG pretty much at random and it did not disappoint. Less than 2,000 ft., but feels much bigger. A nice gradual approach then a pretty steep climb up to the top. The true summit is wooded but the loop over it has lots of excellent open ledge outlooks with great views toward Doubletop, OJI, Barren, The Owl, and Katahdin. The sunny weather really lit up the foliage in the valley below. This isn't one of the big peaks in the park, but it's definitely worth checking out.
Foliage was absolutely spectacular in the park earlier this week, but a lot of it had been blown down when we left during Wednesday's monsoon. |
