Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: These Trails see little use and there were quite a few blowdowns, especially on Five Ponds. None were a major pain, however. With all the fallen leaves and pale blue blazes that were faded, parts of Middle Fowler Pond Trail required close attention to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We met no dogs and just one other hiker on this 8.5-miler.
Bugs
Bugs: Some pesky flies and midges.

Comments
Comments: This proved to be an enjoyable alternative to a planned Travelers Loop scrubbed on account of predicted thunderstorms. More vertical than you might at first think from a glance at the map and lots of solitude. We'd all done the T. Loop on fine days in any case. Good views from the summit of Barrell Ridge, although "extraordinary" on the trail sign (which I'd never seen) may be a tad hyperbolic.
