Conditions were great. The trail is hard packed snow with no ice. But there are areas near the top with solid ice on the rocks under the snow so if the ice becomes exposed then good spikes would be important. Right now either snowshoes or spikes can work for the entire hike. From the tracks it looked like no one had worn snowshoes but the the trail was still pretty smooth without post holes. I'd say spikes are preferred until the last mile then snowshoes would be easier since it becomes looser with some blown in snow. |
