Comments: Saddleback uphill Access, Hudson Highway, America, AT

I called ahead to verify access to the summit, and to the Horn, and a couple other questions. After speaking to 'a supervisor' I was assured there were no problems. However, at the top of the Uphill Access route, there was a sign reading, "NO uphill access above here" We talked to ski patrol and were told we had to go down from there. We said, "That is unacceptable" explained that I had called ahead, before driving all the way for the express purpose of bagging those two peaks. After a bit more 'discussion' he called the base lodge, talked to 'a supervisor' and eventually told us we could go down Hudson Highway to the closed America trail, and take that to the summit. Which we did. Unfortunately, the wind was a sustained 50mph or more on the ridge, and we called it about a hundred yards short of Saddleback summit, knowing we would not make it to the Horn. Still a beautiful, frigid day.
