Wind and dry air kept them at bay. A few mosquitoes bit me, but I never bothered to use repellent.

| Comments: |
Royce trail was dry with good footing. Water levels are fairly low in the stream crossings. Trails have lots of detritus and give the appearance of having seen little recent use. Our group of three saw one other couple on the trail today, and they didn't go beyond Mad River Falls. It was a spectacular day for hiking -- blue sky, sun, cool temps, dry air, few if any bugs. I never even broke into a sweat. We got as far as the open ledge near the summit of E. Royce -- didn't bother to find the true summit. Views were immense. |
