Comments
Comments: This morning's hike was the Redington-Crockers loop. I like to do this loop clockwise from the gate on the Caribou Valley Road, because there are no prolonged steep uphills in that direction, and it gets the road walking over with.

After leaving the Caribou Valley Road, the logging roads get more overgrown, but there's a well-established footbed the whole way. The low clouds and thick boreal forest along the overgrown roads gave it that remote, eerie feeling, which is part of the reason I enjoy solo hiking. I think it's time that we stop calling the trails up Redington "herd paths," because they have well established footbeds and are better maintained then many trails which are considered "official." The sections of trail near the summit were in good shape and passed through some beautiful forest. There were no views from the top of Redington, due to clouds, and the log book and Ziploc bag need to be replaced in the canister.

The section of trail between Redington and South Crocker went by relatively quickly, and there were still no views when I reached South Crocker's summit. After an out-and-back on the AT to the socked in summit of North Crocker, I got a tiny glimpse of a view from South Crocker. While descending South Crocker, I finally broke free of the clouds and was treated to good views from the talus field and the rim of the cirque. I also passed a bunch of AT hikers on this section, before reaching Caribou Valley Road.
