Comments: Is anyone else getting tired of the smoke obscuring views? I sure am! I hiked Little Bigelow this morning and the summit ridge was in and out of the clouds, but even when out of the clouds, views were still very limited by the smoke. However, due to the proximity of the two mountains, I was able to get some good up close views of Bigelow.

This is a pretty straightforward moderate hike from the East Flagstaff Road. After reaching the summit ridge, there are a number of good viewpoints over the next mile or so. I continued to the far western end of the ridge, where there is a good view ledge a little bit off the trail, before returning the way I came. I made a short detour to The Tubs on the way down, where the water was very low. The hand carry boat launch near the parking lot makes a great place to have lunch on Flagstaff Lake!

I was surprised that I didn't see any other day hikers out, however the trail was very busy with thru-hikers. It's worth noting that this is yet another hike where the book distance is significantly different from the distance listed on the sign. The MMG lists the distance to the summit as 3.5 miles, while the sign at the start of the trail says 3 miles. I think it was definitely closer to 3.5 miles to the summit, although I continued on at least a half mile beyond the summit before turning around. Although it was yet another hike with obscured views, I always enjoy being out on the trail!
