Rain stopped overnight. We were the first to leave at the site at 7 am. Gone with the Wind caught up to us after Little Bidelow on an open ledge while we were drying our tents out. They stopped too and we left before them. Julie soaked her feet in Flagstaff Lake, I went swimming! We met the trail maintainers and enjoyed a good conversation with them and thanked them for their great work. We were the first to arrive at West Carry leanto/campsite. We went campsite shopping, listened and saw the Loons and then set up the tents as the sky quickly darkened. Yup we got the tents up and our stuff inside and ran to the shelter just in time to miss getting wet by the heavy rain. We made and ate supper and then Gone with the Wind showed up. They set up their tents and joined us in the shelter. About an hour later 8 thru hikers showed up one after another. One amazingly made a big fire in the ring in the pouring rain! Rain quit around 8 pm. Fell asleep to singing loons. |
