Wilder Hill is one of the shortest hikes around, but it's in a beautiful location and there's lots of interesting sights along the network of logging roads in the area. The lower part of the logging road to Wilder Hill was being worked on, but I'm not sure how high up they are going to improve the road, so it should still be assumed that good clearance is necessary to get to this hike.
Before reaching the hike, I made quick stops at the abandoned school bus and the abandoned house known as Hamlin Place along the logging roads.
The hike up Wilder Hill itself is a short 0.5 mile loop which brings you to a picnic table and memorial at the viewpoint. There were excellent views today which reached all the way to the Presidentials in NH. All of the leaves are gone from the trees, and it's starting to feel more like winter in the mountains! |
