Peaks Snow Mountain (Chain of Ponds), ME
Trails
Trails: Logging roads, herd path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, December 23, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The logging road was plowed clear for most of the access road. The last mile or two to the trailhead by the 2 boulders wasn't plowed after the last 3-4" snowfall, but the road was packed enough to make it manageable.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bridges present for all water crossings
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There's been more logging since I last hiked this 3 years ago and some of the landscape has definitely changed. Overall, the herdpath is easy to follow, provided you don't blow past the turn off the road.

Comments
Comments: It was easy to follow the old logging roads to the herdpath, and then hit the summit. There was one steep part near the summit that had ice under the snow, but otherwise the terrain was forgiving, though the -30 windchill/-2 actually wasn't forgiving at all.
