Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: First 1.7 miles of CVR passable with low clearance 4WD, beyond 2.3 miles a high clearance vehicle is definitely required. I am no 4WD expert, but with some maneuvering, was able to get all the way to the AT and beyond in a 4WD Tundra. In low clearance 4WD, use your own judgement from 1.7 Miles to 2.3 miles, what you can see is the worst of that stretch. Worst section overall is at about 2.4 miles where deep ruts alternate from one side to the other. The parking lot was empty:)

Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Significant, Standing/Running Water on Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Got wet up to about the knees crossing the Carrabassett River between drops in the rapids about 20 to 30 yards upstream from the AT. The crossing is marked with a couple of ribbons that may not last through the next high water. 
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of mud requiring long streches of rock hopping and some log walking on the way to the Sugarloaf Spur. Lots of smaller blowdowns and one major blowdown between the Sugarloaf and Spaulding Spur Trails.

Comments
Comments: Most of the elevation gain is over in the first 1.5 miles but involves going up a very steep section of trail that has been eroded in sections with loose rock in a couple of spots. The rest of the hike is very pleasant with minor ups and downs except for the spur trails which are also fairly steep.
