Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Success Pond Road impassable immediately south of the Speck Pond trailhead. Sucker Brook wiped out about a twenty foot section of the gravel roadway. The 3' diameter culvert was moved downstream. It is not difficult to traverse this washout on foot as long as the brook's water level remains low. There were other washouts on Success Pond Road that were not as severe so vehicles can still pass through with care. Watch for the surveyors ribbons strung from trees and poles providing warnings of dangerous areas. Otherwise Success Pond Road has rocks protruding above the gravel surface and many pock marks which make for a bumpy ride in places. Also, a sign on the road leading in to the Notch trailhead has a sign cautioning that the bridge is in disrepair. There are two traditional logging bridges on this road that seem to be safe but one is starting to wear on one end. All of these roads are private but the public is allowed to use them.

Comments
Comments: Notch trail was in good condition with sound bog bridges.

Mahoosuc Notch was fun with boulder caves and rocks to climb over. The ascent up Mahoosuc Arm was steep and rocky.

Speck Pond is a beautiful lake with a campsite (like the one at Kinsman Pond). Parts of the short May Cut-Off Trail were wet with the bog bridges under water. The views were nice from Mahoosuc Arm. The Presidential Range looked so far south. The upper section of Speck Pond Trail was wet ledges and rocks.
