Trails
Trails: Fire Warden's Trail, Appalachian Trail, Horns Pond Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, May 25, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Stratton Brook Pond Road is in good shape and the trailhead has space for plenty of cars. If you have a vehicle that is higher off the ground it would be very feasible for you to drive past the trailhead down the dirt road that begins the hike and park at Stratton Brook Campsite.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings are flowing but are not high enough to be considered a significant obstacle.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in good condition minus a couple of easy to navigate trees that have fallen across the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Bugs were absolutely brutal at lower elevations, mostly around the ponds and on the dirt road leading to Stratton Brook Campsite. Higher up they were still present but more scarce. I would highly recommend bringing a bug net.

Comments
Comments: All in all this is a pretty easy loop. The ascent up the Fire Warden's Trail was the hardest part for me, but is still completely manageable. I saw one patch of snow the entire time, which could easily be sidestepped and will probably be gone soon anyways. Had the whole place to myself as well. As the AT bubble gets up into Maine and the summer hikers come out this will be less common but was nice. Not much else to report here. This is a pretty straightforward loop.
