| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The large parking lot on the opposite side of the road was full so we parked parallel to the road next to the smaller parking area that’s right next to the start of Man O’ War Brook Fire Rd. Some overflow at 10am when we started and much more at 12:45pm when we finished. |

A watch was seen at the summit. I believe someone was going to take it down and turn it in. |

After Flying Mtn with mom and dad first thing in the morning, mom and I went on to redline the Acadia Mtn Loop. Most people were doing the loop clockwise like ourselves. The advantage to this is that you’re looking out onto Sommes Sound as you’re descending rather than having it behind you as you ascend. The disadvantage to this is that you’re descending the scrambles rather than ascending them. That said, the scrambles are quite easy as far as scrambles go.
To do precisely as the guidebook describes, we walked from our parking spot south along Rt 102 for a few hundred feet to pick up the trail that’s opposite the main parking area. Shown on Gaia as Saint Sauveur Mtn Trail but it’s signed as both that and Acadia Mtn Trail. MMG calls it Acadia Mtn Trail. We turned left at the first jct and followed what’s shown on Gaia as still Saint Sauveur Mountain Trail to the jct of Acadia Mtn Trail and Man O’ War Brook Fire Rd. We now followed what was clearly Acadia Mtn Trail to the summit and down to the fire road again by the Sound. The spur to the sound is signed. Not many people seem to go down if so it may give you some alone time on a busy day! The trail was a bit wet at times from rain the evening before. A few slick spots. Lastly, the guidebook describes descending the trail toward the Sound as very steep. While there are definitely some steep pitches and scrambling going on in that section its really not a very steep grade overall whatsoever, dropping 500-600ft over 0.8mi. Just adding that in case the description scares you! |
