Bugs
Bugs: Bugs didn't really bother me while I was hiking, but they were terrible at the summit. Not on the fire tower (too windy up there), but at the base of the tower. I was going to eat lunch at the summit, but I couldn't because the bugs were so bad.

Comments
Comments: Nice hike to Old Speck, NE 4K #65 for me. I ascended the Eyebrow Trail and descended the AT (Old Speck Trail). The Eyebrow Trail is steep and I think it's better to ascend it rather than descend. It has great views down through the notch from the ledges near the top. The Old Speck Trail doesn't have those views, but if you don't want to climb the Eyebrow Trail, you can still get those views by going down the Eyebrow Trail for about 0.2 mile when you reach the intersection. The lower part of the Old Speck Trail does have nice brook and cascade scenery. Views from the fire tower are outstanding, but climbing it is not for the faint of heart, since it's a vertical ladder rather than a staircase.
