Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The highway rest area was not plowed and there was enough snow in it that I could’ve gotten myself into trouble trying to get into it (close to a half foot??). Luckily there’s a huge plowed out area on the opposite side of the Rt 11, just south of where Pennington Rd is shown on Gaia. Short road walk from here.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I think it was blazed in blue?? A little hard to find/follow at its start maybe with snow on the ground (details below) but soon becomes very easy to follow even with snow on the ground. I don’t recall any blowdowns on the trail; just some small debris from the wind.

Comments
Comments: 1/4mi road walk from the huge plow out to the start of the trail. The trail starts on the left side of the parking area if you’re facing the woods. It passes IN BETWEEN the old fire wardens cabin and white building. The latter is now falling apart. Would be hard to find the trail through here if you didn’t know it went between the two with snow on the ground. The trial is flat for a short ways to start then winds up the mountain at a moderate grade in a nice hardwood forest. I liked it. Nice little summit area with picnic table, memorial to someone, and a view! Snow depth was deeper here than elsewhere I’d been given how far north I was. Still not enough to make snowshoes doable in my opinion considering there’s no base. Maybe 4-6in of powder. No ice so no need for microspikes but good to have with you. On the way down, I cut a corner and returned to Rt 11 slightly closer to my car via an old road I found most of the way down. Gaia had me at 1 2/3mi with about 450ft of gain, taking me 50-55min to complete.
