A beautiful 35 degree day resulted in sticky conditions. Table Rock is a popular spot and the AT to upper junction of the Table Rock trail is well trodden. After the spur I could barely see the showshoe tracks from Amber on 12/28. Amber weighs much less than me and I sunk 2-4" with almost every step. The trail got much more challenging past the Baldpate lean-to and my progressed slowed to a snail in molasses due to the rise and my Tubbs getting deeper and deeper. 6 to 10" Amber did great navigating the poorly marked AT to West Baldface.
East Baldface looked so close covered in bare rock so I continued descending steeply into the col. Ascent was tricky with melting ice, water and bare rock. Windy conditions on the exposed surface and I only stayed log enough to touch the sign. Snowshoes door to door however, upon return I encountered a party of 4 post holing all the way to West Baldface and left a little discouraged. |
